In the span of a single day we laid out a comprehensive marketing plan as well as a development roadmap that would update their API to modern standards. Marketing strategy depends on the position of a company in the marketplace. The client had some good customers that were willing to be featured, which would bring credibility to the service.
We launched a campaign to each of those customers asking permission to put logos and case studies on their site. Most agreed and that created good SEO and credibility for the API client.
This then allowed us to further develop the marketing channels that we identified and convert at a higher percentage.

The primary audience for the API was that of developers. Developers are famously difficult to reach, harder to convert, and are averse to any overt marketing.
Working from experience with previous clients, we identified an opportunity for our client to create better documentation for their API service and to create more client side code for their customers so that they could get started right away.
This lead to increased adoption and better word of mouth.
